Despite a spirited showing, Southampton went down 3-2 to Tottenham in their FA Cup replay game last time out, thus entering the winter break on a rather negative note.

The South coast club have however, managed to steer clear of relegation waters after winning five of their last eight league games, losing only to Wolves and Liverpool in that time.

That said, Southampton will need to improve on their record of just one home win in their last four league games, as well as beat Burnley for the first time since earning a 3-1 victory at this ground five years ago.

Burnley held on for a point versus Arsenal last time out, while they have already beaten Leicester and Manchester United this year.

Sean Dyche’s team are now five points off seventh and firmly placed away from the drop zones, they will be confident of edging even further up the table in the coming weeks.

Team news

James Ward-Prowse is the only injury worry for the hosts following his knee injury against Tottenham in the FA Cup.

Ashley Barnes is ruled out for the Clarets while Johann Gudmundsson is a big doubt.

Suggested bets

These two sides look to have successfully achieved top flight status for next season but will have to keep their toes on ground nonetheless. Burnley ran out 3-0 winners in this fixture in August last year, but this one should prove a lot closer than that routine win. A share of spoils might be an option to take here, and is 14/5 on odds.

Or a YES for Both Teams To Score for 10/11 cannot be ruled out.
